DUI Penalties

California DUI charges carry serious penalties.  Penalties can vary depending on the severity of the offense.  As a criminal case, even a first offense California DUI conviction can result in serious penalties including:

  • Drivers license suspensionSan Diego DUI Breath Test
  • Two or more days served in jail
  • Up to $3,500 in fees, assessments, and penalties
  • 30+ hours of DUI education
  • Community service
  • Probation
  • Car Impoundment

Also, it is important to note that the California DMV has a DUI process that is independent of the courts to determine whether or not you will retain your drivers license, and under what conditions.  The California DMV records a DUI conviction on your record for a minimum of ten years.  Having a DUI on your driving record can not only lead to increased insurance rates, but it can also endanger your credit score and employment possibilities. If you are a second or third time offender, the severity of the penalties you will face will be dramatically increased.
